Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
Who will be my DJ?
As owner of Northeast Music Authority you will always deal with me, Michael Youngblood. From our first e-mail or telephone call to our later sit-down meetings, you will always know who your DJ is and what DJ will be playing the music at your function. I believe in a personalized touch at every event. You and I will go every detail until you are satisfied.
What types of functions or parties does NEMA regularly play?
Over the past several years we have played various parties, ranging from elaborate weddings featuring two sound systems to children's birthday parties. Whether NEMA provides entertainment for your wedding, anniversary, school dance, birthday party, graduation party, corporate event, or holiday celebration, we strive to entertain your guests while still maintaining absolute professionalism.
Will your DJ interact with my guests?
Most definitely! We provide interactive entertainment for all functions. This could range from the traditional conga line and YMCA to more elaborate routines which we can discuss before your event. Special attention will be given to the guest(s) of honor. In addition, we usually throw in some unexpected excitement to keep the party lively. Guest participation is a great thing -- your guests will remember your event as something they enjoyed rather than a boring time where they were looking for the exits. Although if you prefer, we can also provide non-interactive service for those functions where your just want to hear the announcements and enjoy the music.
What types of music will be played at my function?
"We Play the Music YOU Want" is our philosophy that NEMA is known for, ensuring that YOU and YOUR GUESTS remember your event for many years to come. YOU decide what music you would like to hear with professional guidance from NEMA. We also take into consideration music you do NOT want to hear. Another preferred option for some of our clients involves NEMA designing an evening of music tailored to your event. This would allow for a wide range of music to be played for everyone to enjoy. As always, our music is censored according to FCC regulations -- this is a major consideration as we do not wish to offend anyone that may be present at your event.
What if I request music that Northeast Music Authority does not own?
NEMA has an extensive music library. If we do not have the music you wish hear, we will do our best to obtain the music if it is still available. For this reason, we ask that you discuss your musical preferences with NEMA well before the date of your event. If the music is not obtainable, we will notify you and help you to choose other selections.
Why do I need a contract?
If a DJ tells you that you don't need a contract or just refuses to give you one, you might want to ask yourself why. Contracts are important to both you the client and NEMA the service provider. Northeast Music Authority will provide you with a contract prior to your event. The contract will include the date of the function, hours contracted, price, and terms of additional hours if needed.
If needed, will the DJ be able to play longer than the contracted time?
In most instances, NEMA will be able to accommodate additional hours as required during the day of your party. If NEMA has a contracted party following your event, this may inhibit the DJ from playing longer at your event. If so, NEMA will inform you of this situation prior to booking.
Will the DJ be setting up while my guests are arriving?
No, it is very unprofessional for a DJ to be setting up while your guests are arriving at your function. On the day of your event, NEMA will arrive about an hour before your event. This will allow the DJ to set up equipment without having to walk past your guests, provide ample time to do a proper sound check, and address any last minute issues that may arise.
How will the DJ dress?
Always professional, the DJ's dress attire will depend upon the type of party or event you will be having.
Will advertising of NEMA be done during my event?
NO, we will definitely not advertise at your event. A banner will not be hung, business cards will not be placed on tables, nor will our equipment have our logo. If a guest would like more information about our company, NEMA will discretely provide them with a business card. There are occasions where we display a banner, make our logo visible, or display business cards, such as at a promotional event, volunteer benefit function, or a carnival. You may see one of NEMA's assistants wearing a t-shirt with our logo during the time we set up or remove our equipment so as to designate their relationship to NEMA.
What type of equipment will be used at my party?
Northeast Music Authority proudly owns only high quality DJ equipment. NEMA owns several sound systems and we will be sure to use the appropriate system for your party so as not to overpower or be to quiet for the size of the venue.
How loud will your music be played?
It is most important that your guests hear the music, however, they must be able to hear each other as well. Therefore, a NEMA DJ will continuously monitor the volume of the music being played. The DJ will occasionally walk the perimeter of the room to be sure the volume is at an appropriate level.
What if I need music in more than one location?
NEMA generally provides a primary sound system for the reception area. On occasions a second sound system may be required (such as prerecorded music for a ceremony). NEMA can provide a second sound system at an additional fee if necessary.
Is lighting included in my package?
Yes, NEMA always includes a basic lighting package for all events provided it is suitable for the occasion. We are one of the few DJ companies in the area to use industrial grade lighting for maximum reliability as a mobile DJ service. If you choose, for an additional fee, we also offer more elaborate lighting should your event require more lighting for your party.
Do you rent equipment to other DJs?
Yes, we at Northeast Music Authority believe in helping our fellow DJs as a professional courtesy. We do not discriminate just because they may be our competition. It is the customer that is important to us. We individually rent speakers, amplifiers, cd players/mixers, basic lighting, sound activated scanner lights (moving mirror), fog machines, ground level foggers for Halloween or special effects, party props, etc. Complete sound systems are also available.
What if I want to DJ my own party but need equipment?
NEMA offers complete sound packages and lighting packages at a reasonable rate to fit your needs. We arrive prior to your event to set up the equipment and/or lighting. You will be shown how to work any necessary equipment. At the end of your event, we will take down all equipment and remove it from the location. We also offer party props, including YMCA hats to maracas. Please visit our party store if you would like to purchase additional props that you can have on hand for your future events:
